The Most Popular in the Terrier Roy Dog Breeds The Yorkshire terrier once belonged to the working class dog. Its origins can be traced in the British Isles where farmers and farm owners use these breeds to get rid of farm pests. When the industrial revolution has begun, it has brought great lifestyle changes to some families so when they left farming and went to work in factories and industrial mills; they have brought with them their pets in the city to be with them. As all working dogs nature, the Yorkshire terriers has helped its owners to get rid of its house pests problems chasing and catching rats and other mammals that invades their home. Through the century this has been its role in the society but eventually high society has caught its eye and since this it has become European families pet for the high society and royal bloods. Now the Yorkshire terriers have become the most sought after and popular breed among dogs. It is a favorite among the show dogs because of its luxurious coats and stead. It is very regal and elegant thus earning it name one of the famous dog breeds.
In taking care of its coat brushing and regular bathing are required for these breeds. Though it has a long coat it does not sport a double coat or shed, so owners must take extra consideration in its grooming these breed. Hygiene must be taken into high consideration; a good trimming is advised, in fact a Yorkshire terriers coat is likened to humans, if not properly trimmed they will continue to grow, another factor why it needs its coat to be trimmed regularly is to maintain its cleanliness and ease of movement. A good trim every month is required especially the face and anal area to avoid matted portion especially on the anus which could attract fly strike, flea’s infestation and other skin disorders. Yorkies as others call this breed are fond of being pampered and being cuddled. So it is very important that especial care and treatment is given to this kind of breed. As for food yorkies eat very little so owners do not spend much on foods.
Yorkshire terriers are a good family companion, like other terrier breeds they are intelligent, active, playful and good hunters. They are wary of strangers and as such a good guard dogs. They are pets which can ideally live in any living condition, whether it is small houses such as condominiums, apartments or big houses with big gardens and lawn. They are protective with their masters and charges. Due to its active nature, caution should be given when it is around small children, though it will not intentionally harm its master its playfulness and hyperactive behavior may hurt the child, not to mention it is a very strong dog. Being a pierce hunter it is advised not to let them alone or mingle with other pets like cats, when they are not acquainted, as a natural hunter they will chase it and fight till its death this is how ferocious Yorkies are, keeping in mind that this breed has a hunter nature and lineage. Yorkies love to play outdoors so they must be regularly walked and exercised.
