Poodle

One of the famous dogs of all time is the Poodle.  When groomed, it boasts of its unique appearance by having customized and styled hair that looks like a pom-pom on each leg and a robust and proud physique.  It is famous for being the dog used in shows and performances.  It is also the dog most often seen walked by the elites.

Poodles come in a variety of sizes.  The American Kennel Club has identified three types of Poodle namely the Toy Poodle, Miniature Poodle and the Standard Poodle.

The toy poodle, as the name suggests, is small in size and is classifiable as belonging to the toy group.  They are also known as the tea cup poodle.  It grows to a maximum of ten (10) inches and may weigh from six (6) to nine (9) pounds.

Their size makes it easy for pet owners to carry them around and even travel with them.  Tea cup poodles are not only good as pets or companions, they also make good accessories.  During the past year, tea cup poodles became a fashion accessory by most of the Hollywood celebrities.  Their posh and chic appearance makes them an interesting addition to any outfit.  They can life from twelve (12) to fifteen (15) years.

The Miniature Poodle is another type of Poodle recognized by the American Kennel Association.  Its lively and responsive attitude makes it perfect for companionship.  Its house training not much of a problem as the Poodle is a naturally intelligent dog.  They also go well in public performances such as dog shows and circuses.  They can easily learn fancy tricks that can amuse a crowd.  The Miniature Poodle can grow from eleven (11) to fifteen (15).  It can weigh from fifteen (15) to seventeen (17) pounds.  Just like the toy poodle, it has a life expectancy of twelve (12) to fifteen (15) years.

The Standard Poodle is the type of Poodle grouped under the non-sporting group.  It has an approximate height of fifteen (15) inches or more.  Its males can weigh from forty (40) to seventy (70) pounds.  Bitches are slightly lighter with a weight of forty-five (45) to sixty (60) pounds.

Poodles require utmost grooming especially when they are intended to be presented in dog shows.  The grooming styles recognized in dog shows are the pet clip, the Continental clip and the English saddle clip.  The pet clip is also known as the puppy clip.  This type of clip has consistently short hair all over the body.  The Continental clip has a more stylish approach.  This is the popular groom in Poodles.  This is the groom where the body is shaved and the hair left will be groomed to appear as pom-poms in the ankle, hip and tail areas.  The English Saddle clip is a rare clip seen on standard poodles.  It has similarities to the Continental clip but has differences in the grooming in the hind area.

Poodles are dogs may require attention when it comes to grooming.  However, with its looks and talent, having and raising a Poodle is one rewarding experience.
