Pomeranian

What sets Pomeranian from other dogs is their angelic appearance.  With just one look, it is not hard to fall in love with this type of dog.  Their lively and enthusiastic characteristic will make the owner forget all other dog breeds.

Pomeranians are dogs owned by famous personalities.  It sat on the laps of people who later on became part of the history.  The personalities include Michelangelo, Sir Isaac Newton, Queen Victoria, Marie Antoinette, Harry Houdini, Charles Darwin, Emile Zola and Mozart.

Classified as a toy dog, Pomeranians hail from the family of Spitz.  It was once determined that the Pomeranian belonged to the German Spitz breed.

Pomeranians have a fox-like appearance.  It has a short muzzle and has triangular, erect ears.  It has a fluffy and feathery tail.  They come in a variety of colors such as brown, black and white but they are always solid.  There are also varieties of Pomeranians that comes in dual colors such as tan and white or black and tan.

Adding distinction to the appearance of the Pomeranian is its majestic fur.  It may come in several colors but generally, the Pomeranian coat will always be fluffy and soft.  Just like humans, this is the Pomeranian’s crowning glory.  It has two layers.  The Pomeranian double coat has an undercoat and a topcoat.  The undercoat consists of short strands that are thick and soft.  The top coat consists of longer and coarse strands.  It may appear as a difficult task to maintain such coat.  Constant brushing and regular washing will make the coat clean and manageable.  Shedding is a normal occurrence once a year.

The Pomeranian normally grows for about seven (7) to twelve (12) inches and can weigh from three (3) to seven (7) pounds.  It can live for an estimated fifteen years.

Just like most dogs, Pomeranians need exercise.  Pomeranians are by nature, active and alert dogs.  Giving them exercise such as daily walks or playing Frisbee will certainly do wonders for their health.  Dry feed will also get rid of potential tooth decay.

Pomeranian has a playful characteristic.  Their energy never seems to run out when it comes to activities.  They are always happy and may be contagious to their owner as well.  They have an inherent curiosity for anything that arouses their senses.  That’s why they make good guard dogs.  They vigorously bark at strangers and are protective of their owners.  Intelligence is also a notable attribute of Pomeranians.  They can learn tricks easily.  In some instances, Pomeranians are used for performances in dog shows, talent shows and circuses.

Unfortunately, Pomeranians are prone to certain diseases.   Such diseases include problems related to the eye, skin, heart, teeth and bones.  A regular visit to the veterinarian combined with a healthy and maintained dog lifestyle will help reduce the risk of acquiring these threats.

Pomeranians are toys dogs that come with sense and style.  With not much maintenance required, these dogs will definitely land a special place in every dog lover’s heart.
