Energetic, smart, sociable and physically powerful, the Labrador Retriever - sometimes known as Labrador or Lab - is considered as one of the world’s most trainable and multipurpose breeds over the years. Nearly everyone knows this dog breed because of its popularity. It was even categorized in 2007 as one of the top breeds.

Originally, Labrador Retriever came from Newfoundland in Eastern Canada. That time, they were known as “St. John’s dogs” and they were bred for the purpose of hunting birds and helping the fishermen in pulling the fishing net. They were mainly used by people for helping them looked for foods. It was in nineteenth century that these dogs were taken by fishermen in England, wherein their talents and skills were more sharpened and developed.

Today, this dog breed is well admired because of its versatility and endurance. They are multitalented companions that can do multitasks for human activities. As family dogs, they can do household activities such as watching the house as well as become playmates for everyone. Aside from that, they have also been used for other professions and services such as guiding and assisting blind men, handicapped men and other physically incapable individuals because of its intellectual and physical capacity. This dog breed also helps in accompanying police and military for their missions for their strong ability to detect or track down drugs, bombs, weapons and other unlawful stuffs. This dog breed’s ability is highly recognized for their exceptional obedience and trainability.

Labrador Retriever dogs physically have short and straight coats that are easy to groom. Their coats come in variety of colors such as white, black, silver, chocolate, yellow and etc. Their coats are also thick and a good water-resistant. Their bodies are powerfully good-looking because of their athletic built. Their sizes and heights depend on their types and mostly males are taller than females. They have masculine heads, thick nose, thick necks and drop ears that are pendant look-alike. They have tails that are like otters and are thick and strong which can able to slap objects. Their tails are also very useful in their swimming ability.

By nature, Labrador Retriever dogs are good and friendly but sometimes their behavior alters from being gentle to aggressive. Their being high-spirited can at times create hostile with the other neighboring dogs. To most people, they are loyal and dependable that is why they yearn for human attention. They love to be with people around them particularly with children who love to play with them. They are also easy to train, outgoing and love to play fun activities that give them the chance to jump, run and roam around. Because these Labrador Retriever dogs are energetic and enchanted to play and work, they require lots of food to maintain its wellness and solid-built body. They must also be brought by the owner on daily jog or walk to give them the regular exercise they needed. Regarding their life expectancy, most of them range from 12 to14 years.
