German shorthaired pointer Dogs are commonly known as man’s best friend. They can be companions who take away your stress and at the same time serve as your protector. Nowadays, we can see different types of dogs with different breeds. They vary from the color, from white to gray, black to brown and with different patterns. They vary also the types of hair they have such as curly, straight or smooth.
There are now several breeds of dogs. Records show that there are 800 of breeds are recognized worldwide. One of these breed is the German shorthaired pointer.
The German Shorthaired Pointer is a flexible and all-around dog. The breed of German shorthaired pointer was developed during 1800s for the purpose of helping hunters. There origin is from the family of Spanish pointer which can be found in Germany in early 1600.
You can identify the German shorthaired pointer through looking at their clean-cut head. The head is just proportion to their body. The eyes of the German shorthaired pointer are medium by size has an almond shaped but and not in circular shape. Generally, the eyes of these dogs are dark brown. They have floppy ears which are set high on their head. Their nose appears to be like Roman nose. They have tails that are docked that leaves only 40% of its length.
The German Shorthaired Pointer has an attractive coat and color. Usually the coat is shorter and flat with a thick undercoat. It helps the German Shorthaired Pointer to be able to tolerate the coldness during cold weather. Their color can be described as chocolate chestnut, black or either white. They have also patches which are called saddles. The German Shorthaired pointer also has a standard height of 21 to 25 inches. They typically weigh from around 45 to 70 pounds.
The German shorthaired pointer is a kind of dog that fits in a family setting type. The German Shorthaired pointer dogs are flexible and an intelligent dog that are easy to be trained. They are also loving and kind and very cooperative.
These kind of dogs are generally active, it is recommended that they have ample of activities. Like with any other dogs who possess hyperactive qualities, the German Shorthaired pointer should be engaged in energetic activities to lessen tendencies of being destructive. Some activities that might help the German Shorthaired pointer are running, carting and hunting since these kind of dogs are developed for hunting purposes. But there is no need to be afraid of when you have a German shorthaired pointer because since they are intelligent they are trainable.
When it terms of health, the German Shorthaired Pointers are strong and healthy dogs. The German Shorthaired Pointer most likely to live until 12 to 14 years. These kinds of dogs should have regular check up especially in their ears which are prone to infections because of their floppy ears. It should have a regular cleaning.
Since they possess high level of activities, they require greater amount of water to be take in to avoid dehydration.
